A Great Scientist Of India:- A.P. J. ABDUL KALAM 


APJ ABDUL KALAM was an aerospace scientist from 1931 to 2015. He was born in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu and studied physics and aerospace engineering. He dedicated the next four decades as a scientist at the Defence Research and Development Organisation. For his work on the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology He thus came to be known as the Missile Man of India. He also played a vital role in India's Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998. He was the 11th President of India in 2002 in BJP.

 He was honored with several prestigious awards, including the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor. He collapsed and died from an apparent cardiac arrest on 27 July 2015, aged 83during  a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management Shillong

He born in Tamil Muslim family. His father was a boat owner and] his mother Ashiamma was a housewife. He was the youngest of four brothers. He belongs to a poor family so that for his education fee he had started to sell newspapers. In his school years, He was an average student but was dedicated for mathematics. He went on to attend Saint Joseph's College, after completing his education at the Schwartz Higher Secondary School then affiliated with the University of Madras, from where he graduated in physics in 1954. He went to Madras in 1955 to study aerospace engineering in Madras Institute of Technology.

A Career As A Great Scientist Of India:-

APJ Abdul Kalam became a part of the Aeronautical Development Establishment of the Defence Research and Development Organisation as a scientist after becoming a member of the Defence Research & Development Service after completing graduation from Madras Institute of Technology

 He began his career by designing a small hovercraft, but he was unconvinced by his choice of a job at DRDO. He was also a part of the INCOSPAR committee, the renowned space scientist In 1969, he was moved to the Indian Space Research Organisation and he worked as the project director of India's first Satellite Launch Vehicle.

Presidency Of APJ Abdul Kalam:-

He served as the 11th President of India, succeeded K. R. Narayanan. He was elected in  2002 presidential election with an electoral vote of 922,884.l. He served the nation from 25 July 2002 to 25 July 2007.

Memorial:-

The Dr. Abdul Kalam National Memorial was built in memory of Kalam by the DRDO in Pei Karumbu, in Tamil Nadu which was inaugurated on July 2017  by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Awards And Honors:-

  • He got 7 honorary doctorates from 40 universities
  • He got Padma Bhushan in 1981 and the Padma Vibhushan in 1990 for his work with ISRO and DRDO and his role as a scientific advisor to the Government by  The Government of India. In 1997, he got  India's highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, for his participation in the scientific research and modernization of defense technology in India. In 2013, he got Von Braun Award from the National Space Society 
  • In September 2015, A national missile test site in Odisha was renamed Abdul Kalam Island.
  • A road in New Delhi was renamed from Aurangzeb Road to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road
  • In his honor scientists from the Botanical Survey of India named a newly found plant species as Drypetes kalam.
